Laura Ingraham - Apparently, the Senate Can't Even Agree on Something Stupid and Pointless
The top story on today's Laura Ingraham show is this one, in which the Senate was unable to press forward with a non-binding resolution against the Iraq war. Anti-war advocates are understandably upset. In their world, this was a vote "[preventing] the American people from hearing a real debate. That is, of course, completely different from preventing an up-or-down vote on confirmation of a judge.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has just now discovered the filibuster is a dangerous genie he can't put back into the bottle.
But in all honesty, do we really want a debate on something that is merely symbolic and pointless? As long as we're doing non-binding resolutions, Senators can excoriate the war effort without the messy problem of actually coming up with a solution. That's pure partisan politics, and there is no reason for the American public to stand for it any longer.
No one disputes the fact that we have a real problem in Iraq. Therefore, a debate on a non-binding anti-war resolution is not going to teach us anything new. To get past a problem, you don't offer complaints, you offer solutions. Until the Democrats are ready to put a solution on the table, any debate about Iraq is a waste of time.
We need more votes against the Senate wasting its time, and if the price of that is not being able to nominate a judge, I pay it gladly.
Respectfully submitted,
