The Cat's Meow - 03/09/07: Morality and War
To a conservative, a foreign war is just if it benefits the people of the foreign country. To a liberal, a foreign war is just only if it does not benefit the United States.
I point this out because we're still in Kosovo.
To those who lived through the Kosovo campaign, there will always be the suspicion that the real purpose of the war was to rehabilitate Clinton's image. Nonetheless, there were no anti-war sites talking about the cost of the war or the tragic collateral damage. Even Clinton's Iraq strike is seen as more moral that Bush's Iraq war, because Clinton's attacks left an anti-American leader-- Saddam Hussein-- in charge.
But while Iraq continues to dominate the news, Kosovo stays under the radar of the American public's notice, sucking up time and money while NATO and the UN dither about its fate. It stays there because nothing that happens in that tiny European province is going to change our lives for better or worse.
I'm pointing this out because our problem in Iraq is not that we're forcing our notion of right and wrong on somebody else. We are doing that in Kosovo, and we were also doing it when Bill Clinton ordered the bombing raids on Iraq. The problem in Iraq right now is that we might end up doing ourselves a big favor, and as far as the anti-war crowd is concerned, there's just no excuse for that.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

Conservative Cat -
I have just been trolling about the blogoshere looking for sites with a conservative bent. Yours is the far and away the wittiest I have seen. My little brother, cousin and step-father have just (and I mean just) started a little left-leaning blog to augment my brother's poli-sci studies (Tulane undergrad). Because we are all varying degrees of liberal as are most of his professors, I worry that he will not get a full picture of the political spectrum. If you are so kind as to visit our new site, you will notice a lot of conservative bashing - but that is not coming from my brother. My brother and I have a sincere desire to understand the conservative view point - both current and historic. If you get into my "Ghouliani" piece, you will get a taste of our curiosity.
If you have time, I would really appreciate some conservative ideas for my brother to bounce his own ideas off of - please visit!
Finally, if you have any other conservative sites we might look at, I am searching for recommendations.
