The Cat's Meow - 03/12/07: The Test of Time
No matter what happens in our modern world, one thing is certain: the issue-oriented movies and TV shows of today will look just as silly in the 2020s as the 1980s films of a similar ilk look right now.
This is something you learn very quickly when you live with a film buff. For example, there was a flurry of nuclear-disaster movies during the Eighties. Everybody was so sure that Reagan would push us over the edge. (Okay, so that last one was a comic book, but you get the idea.)
Anyway, history is about to repeat itself. Look for a lot of movies in 2007 about a vengeful Mother Earth, and damn few about the barbarians who represent a clear and present danger. Get your copies as soon as they hit DVD so that in 20 years you can sit around with your family and laugh about the silly things.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

I think you're on to something here. Maybe that would explain Hollywood's increased focus on politics and decreased focus on their primary task - making quality movies.
One definition of a classic is withstanding the test of time. It's easier to be a film maker producing takes on controversy than artful presnetations with classic flare.
