Pet Food News - Now It's In the Rice, Too
Natural Balance Pet Foods is recalling its Venison foods line because they use a rice protein concentrate imported from China, and it has melamine in it.
First wheat gluten, now rice protein. This has got to stop, people. Dogs and cats are predators. We should eat stuff that's been killed. Either that, or high-quality mozzarella cheese. Not rice protein, not wheat protein, not any of this weird human health food stuff.
The Purina NF pet food the Other Cat and I use contains brewer's rice, which is sort of the opposite of rice protein concentrate, a fact for which I am extremely thankful. Still, feeding time has become a scary thing, and I'm starting to think the appearance of pet foods with the words contains no ingredients imported from China printed on the box can't happen soon enough.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

Well said. I agree with the new labeling too. Of course, with some of the companies being rather unwilling to disclose where they get their ingredients from, it might never happen unless some laws and regulations change.
