Confused Americans for Truth - Farewell to Cindy Sheehan
Cindy Sheehan has resigned from the anti-war movement. She ceased to be relevant a long time ago, but this makes it official.
Sheehan's argument was never an intellectual one. She lost her son Casey in the war, and she was sad, and she wanted to save other mothers from that fate. There was no understanding about the role of Iraq in the War on Terror, no acknowledgment of the consequences of a pull-out, and no room for compromise.
Making a poster child out of someone with no intellectual point to make is a dangerous business. Sheehan quickly moved from bereaved mother to crazy person by blaming the Jews for this whole business and cozying up to Hugo Chavez. Her last hurrah was a hunger strike so goofy that it provided us with months of satire.
When Democrats were out of power, it was easy to demand an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, but this is not Korea where you can pull back from a defined front, nor is it Viet Nam where you can negotiate terms with a belligerent government. The Democrats understand this to a point, which is why it's always been about deadlines. The plan is to give the military a date and hope like hell they find a way to pull it off between now and then.
Eventually, even the deadlines were abandoned, and Bush won the standoff on the war funding bill. Ms. Sheehan immediately condemned the Democrats. Apparently, some serious nastiness ensued, which prompted her letter of resignation. And so ends another chapter of American History as entertainment.
I can't tell you if this resignation is going to last years, months, or even days. But for as long as it lasts, Casey Sheehan can rest in peace. That's a good thing.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

The Yahoo news article near the end said:
"Sheehan camped near Bush's Prairie Chapel ranch in August 2005 while he was on summer holiday there and spent much of that time asking in vain to meet with him to ask why her son had to die."
The reporter failed to mention that she had already met with him once, and after that had commented favorably on the meeting.
Even in the lie by omission, the reporter couldn't resist using the term "tried in vain", packing it with pathos.

Good riddance. Maybe she can focus on important things like being a mother to her other children.
