Confused Americans for Truth - A Tipping Point is Reached in Iraq
By now, you have probably already heard that the surge appears to be working. July had the lowest death toll for Americans this year, the Iraqis are turning against the insurgents, and joint US/Iraqi forces are making progress against the militias.
There is now a possibility we could pacify Iraq in another year or two. The problem is that a victory in Iraq would make a lot of Democrats look stupid.
So here's my bipartisan solution to the whole problem. For the time being, the Democrats can pretend they're solidly behind the war effort. This will help to convince the terrorists to move their operations elsewhere. Then, when the Iraqi government is stable and we can start pulling out for real, the Democrats can claim they were for pulling out before they were against it. After a few months, they can claim the victory didn't happen. This allows everybody to save face without having to worry about empowering the terrorists just as we're starting to turn the corner.
So, if you have a Democratic senator or representative, call them now and tell them my plan for a victory in Iraq that doesn't mean a defeat at the polls. Hopefully, they'll see the wisdom of my approach and give the surge the time it needs to finish the job.
I don't see a downside here.
Respectfully submitted,
