Confused Americans for Truth - The Palestine Problem

by Ferdinand T Cat

I don't want to belittle the very real dangers of the War on Terror, and I don't want to diminish how scary it is to be living in Britain right now. But I want everyone to keep one thing in mind: Islamic terrorism is based on an essentially stupid idea.

The Stupid Idea is that dominion of land should be determined by ethnic rights instead of military force.

It was this concept that enabled Hitler to bloodlessly conquer the heart of Europe (generally considered a bad thing). It was this concept that brought self-rule to the far-flung regions of the British Empire after World War II (generally considered a good thing). It is also this concept that gives both Jews and Arabs exclusive rights to the land west of the Jordan river.

In normal circumstances, both parties would solve the problem of conflicting claims using military force. This was tried in 1967. The losers of that conflict decided their best chance was to fall back to the Stupid Idea.

Here in America, we have a variation of the Stupid Idea rooted in the belief that people all over the world should be allowed to choose their own government. This idea is one of the main justifications for the Iraq war. Israel has an elected government, so the problem should be solved. Consider, however, what it would mean to the Jews in Israel if an election put the Palestinians in control of the legislature.

It's a hard thing for Americans to understand. Every four years we hear about how The Other Party Will Cause the End of the World, but regardless of who is in the White House, we muddle on pretty much as we have before. That's because we have a document that limits the power of government. That document is over 200 years old, so it's missing some of the rules of more modern constitutions such as the right to human dignity and free education. These latter rights provide a dangerous constitutional loophole. For example, it is an affront to the dignity of the Palestinians that they are living under the yoke of Israeli occupation. The affront is in spite of the fact that the lesser-yoked of the two Palestinian territories is the one with the loopiest government. That loopy government has its own document, ironically titled The Document for Palestinian Dignity. The document makes a firm stand for justice, economic progress, and quality of life, but its only mechanism for bringing that about is continued violence against the Israelis. This is illustrated by The Document's last bullet point

Laying stress on the legitimacy of the armed resistance and the political struggle and all the means of jihad and struggle that the Palestinian people have practiced and still practice in order to realize freedom and independence, and mobilizing all energies to denounce all forms of occupation and tyranny in Palestine and Iraq and Afghanistan and any inch [of land] occupied by the foreigner.

So, terrorism is justified, and it will continue until we not only expel the Jews from the Middle East, but set up Jew-hating governments in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's a maniacal statement by a maniacal government, and the ONLY reason it has any legitimacy at all is because that government was founded on the principle that every ethnic group has a homeland.

That's why I call it a Stupid Idea.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
