Adventures with Bruce - A Sonic Problem

by Ferdinand T Cat

You may have noticed that the posting has been a little light lately. The problem is that we are legitimate journalists here, which means that an editor has to check each article before it's published. Our editor is Bruce, and he has always been the weak link in the process.

Those who have known Bruce for a long time are probably assuming that he's put in another 80-hour week at work and is currently sleeping it off. This could be true, but that would mean that Bruce thinks his job is more important than I am. As a result, I have come up with an alternative explanation.

One of the nifty aspects of the Nintendo Wii is the built-in Virtual Console. Using the Virtual Console, you can download old video games from the Internet and play them on the Wii. In particular, for a mere $8 you can get Bruce's all-time favorite console game, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

It's been 15 years since Bruce last played a console video game, and a game that relies on memorization, fast reflexes, and fine motor skills stresses exactly those areas where he's become less capable in his old age. You can imagine, then, what it was like for The Girl Who Feeds Me to watch her father jumping onto spikes, running into walls, and falling into pits of lava over and over and over again.

Mental breakdown is no laughing matter. With Bruce's wife out of town and The Girl's razor intellect unavailable, the household has been in complete chaos since last Thursday. I think we're past the worst of it; however, to prevent a recurrence, please call Nintendo now and request that they immediately scrap plans to resurrect Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Anything you can do would be appreciated.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Sonic the Hedgehog is my most favorite fictional character EVER!!!!!!!!!!! And Sonic 2 was the first Sonic game I ever played!!! Bruce, you shouldn't have wasted your money on that stupid downloaded version! Just buy Sonic Mega Collection (for the original Gamecube)(plus a Gamecube controller to play it with) and you'll have every Sonic game ever made for Genesis! :O)

Oh...Maybe I missed the point of the post. Well, if you can't handle the video games, you can still read the comic books (like I do when not playing Sonic games) or watch the old cartoons on DVD.

Sorry if I got overexcited. I've been a Sonic fan since I was a kid and ever since you guys got a Wii, I was hoping you would make some reference to Sonic.

Have I ever told you that this is my most favorite blog ever?

Thanks for the kind words.

Barb Gigamaster is also a huge Sonic fan, and is currently playing Sonic and the Secret Rings. It's a fun game to watch, but the controls take more dexterity than Bruce has at the moment. Barb and Nate, however, have no problem with it, and have already unlocked several of the party games.

Woot! Sonic and the Secret Rings is gonna be one of the first games I get when I get a Wii. I've already reserved Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, in spite of the fact that I don't even have a Wii yet.

It may interest you to know that a couple of the more recent Sonic characters have been cats. Unfortunately, the first one wasn't too popular because his gameplay in his first game appearance (Sonic Adventure) involved fishing, which required lots of patience, which is a quality that is rare among Sonic fans. :)
However, a couple of years ago, they invented a new cat character, who has been a lot more successful. In fact, she's even a playable character in Sonic & the Secret Rings. Just ask Barb if she's unlocked "Blaze the Cat."
