Laura Ingraham - Nancy Pelosi and the Accountability Factor
Today on the Laura Ingraham Show, she played several clips of an interview between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi [D, CA] and CNN correspondent Wolf Blitzer. Speaker Pelosi has a problem regarding her failure to stop the Iraq war. She blamed the failure on the Senate, but argued that she can still "hold [the] administration accountable". This immediately reminded me of Laura's long-ago interview with Cindy Sheehan, who also talked about holding the administration accountable on the war.
Accountability is a great concept, because it doesn't actually change anything, but it does make you feel good. The problem is, that while you're feeling good, your opponent may be feeling even better. For example, Lee Bollinger of Columbia University held Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accountable for the latter's Holocaust denial, but Ahmadinejad himself feels he won the exchange.
We are in Iraq, and whether we want to win or lose, we need a strategy that incorporates the present reality. Holding someone accountable is not going to change that reality, however much we might wish otherwise. For the next election cycle, please consider voting for people who are into reality, instead of accountability. We're at war, and we need a Congress that remembers that.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat
