Catblogging - The Camera Climb

Things are not going very well this week. The Other Cat's kidneys have finally failed. We've got her on home dialysis, but she's developed an ulcer on her tongue and has real trouble eating. Since I won't eat cat food unless she's there with me, I'm hungry all the time. Here you can see me climbing up Bruce's shirt to see if the camera is edible. The answer is no: it has a real yucky metallic taste and my teeth just slide off without penetrating.
By the way, if you live with a cat and find yourself in a similar situation, wear a thick shirt so you don't end up with claw marks all over the middle part of your chest.
The Other Cat has beaten the odds so many times before, but I've never seen her like this. I've had to come to grips with the fact that I may someday have to live without this strange creature who for so long was an enemy, but who in the past few months has become a close friend. Doesn't seem fair if you ask me, but of course, fairness is a purely human concept, and superior life forms know better. It doesn't change the grief you feel, but it makes you appreciate what you have while you still have it, and that's worth a lot.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

» What a beautiful life; we have been blessed from Rosemary's Thoughts
Dost Thou look upon thee with adorning eyes? Searching my soul for my every care. Such blessings I humbly accept with the knowledge that I am less than rags upon Thou's sight. How merciful and graceful Thou art to me. Thou hast come at my time of ..... [Read More]

» Well Now, of Course, I Feel Completely Foolish from Conservative Cat
I have heard that all cats go to heaven. If that is true, then it is a good chance God doesn't want to have to compete with The Other Cat for control of the place once she gets there. My... [Read More]

Very sorry to hear about The Other Cat, Ferdy.
Please tell Bruce the best solution to feline grief is obtaining another cat (preferably a small, easily manipulated one) as quickly as possible. Failing to do this can result in dramatic consequences, including the permanent loss of 9/10ths of Bruce's pillow, as you will decide to seek comfort by sharing the pillow every time he lies down. In time, this can result in disturbing and confusing moments like "The Time I Woke Up With A Cat On Top Of My Head" and "The Time I Woke Up Sleeping On The Side of the Bed, Because The Cat Pushed Me Off The Pillow." Not that I would know anything about this, mind you...

Dear Ferdy and Bruce,
I'm so sorry to hear this. I am in tears. I have a number of cats, and I love them all. Any one of them would break my heart.
I rationalize the money I spend on doctors visits by saying, "If I had children, I would have had to spend much more!"
I will be praying for other kitty to pull through this as well. Kidneys, eh? They told me I had tumors on my uterus. I prayed for three days straight, even ready to accept what the doctor said but knowing I had a better Doctor, and when I went back to the doctor? They could NOT find a thing. Now that is what I call a miracle! I tried to share it with the nurses, but they were ready to accept that it was probably a mistake rather than to believe in something they could not touch.
They are so wrong. They can touch Him anytime they want! Just check out all of the animals He has created. The flowers, the mountains, the people, and on and on...God bless you, Bruce. I pray for His strength and Peace for you.

Ferdy and Bruce,
We have had so many cats who went to the Rainbow Bridge, it brings tears to my eyes to hear about the Other Cat. I’m so sorry she is so ill. She’s had a great life, guys, and she feels the love you have for her. There are a lot of us out here who want to send their love and sympathy.
Give her a few skritches from me. At least you have this time with her, to give her special love.

So sorry to hear about The Other Cat. I lost two lovely old toms to kidney disease, now my Liberty has it too, but she's shown signs of improvement with her treatments and renal diet. Take care.

Ferdy, Bruce:
As a dog, I have many times heard the old saw, "All dogs go to heaven." Believe me when I tell you, it also applies to cats.
