Confused Americans for Truth - The Katie Couric Book
It's important when analyzing a journalistic phenomenon to look at all angles of a problem. Sometimes you can get blinded by what you think you already know. A good example is this paragraph from an EMAIL ad about a book by Ed Klein.
Despite the fact that it’s the first book to present the full story of Katie Couric and her downfall as a TV news anchor, the mainstream media have virtually ignored Ed Klein’s revelations about her in his new book, “Katie: the Real Story.” Klein, who has written a string of New York Times best sellers, attributes the blackout to media executives’ coziness with Couric and their affinity for her liberal views.
Cozy or not, the truth about Katie Couric is that she's boring. If you're interested in watching famous people crash and burn, Britney Spears is much more entertaining. Couric comes off as a nice person, and who wants to see a nice person crash and burn?
Katie's downfall has a simple explanation. The morning shows are a growth area while the evening news is losing viewers. There are certainly some people in the TV business who can drag viewers with them, but it appears Katie is not one of them. Fortunately, Katie is a woman doing what until recently was a man's job. This enables her to blame her problems on the American public, which hurts a lot less than realizing you've made a very stupid career move.
So, if Ed Klein wants his next book to generate some buzz, he should pick a different target. About the only thing dumber than writing a tell-all book about somebody the public's lost interest in is leaving a morning talk show to anchor the CBS evening news, and we all know what happened to the last person who tried that.

I don't know that the problem is with Couric, so much as it is with the "news". If they gave more in-depth coverage to actual important events, and less to morning-talk-show fodder...
