The Girl Who Feeds Me - Farewell to The Other Cat

by Ferdinand T Cat

The Girl Who Feeds Me was 10 pounds at birth, and Bruce's wife needed some time to recover, so Nate and the twins were sent for a week to their aunt's farm. When they came home, one of the barn cats-- a black female long-hair kitten-- had stowed away in the car.

This was how Katy the Other Cat came to be part of the family.

Katy was a friendly cat, but she had a special place in her heart for The Girl, possibly because they joined the family at the same time, or possibly because Katy recognized that being loved by The Girl is something special.

People say that kittens are more fun than cats. Katy was full-grown when I met her, but no kitten could ever be nearly as entertaining as this stubborn old female who expected the world to conform to her wishes and was rarely disappointed.

Like many cats, Katy's kidneys started to fail when she was 12 years old. For four years, she survived more or less normally with only only one-half of one kidney functional. Perhaps it was because we loved Katy so much, or perhaps she was just too mean and stubborn to die. Sadly, none of these applied any more once she started bleeding inside. She finally passed on earlier today.

All cats go to heaven, so God will be busy for the next few days while Katy explains how things are to be run now that she's there. I envy Him.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Being someone who's lived with kidney disease for most of his life (and is still recovering from a transplant), I can say for sure that Katy is a lot better off now. I feel sorry for you, though.

We'll see you again on the Rainbow Bridge. Thanks for everything, Lady Kate.
