Pushing Daisies - Week 3 - The Fun in Funeral
Pushing Daisies has three episodes under its belt. There was a significant drop after the premiere episode, but the flash ratings for episodes 2 and 3 have held steady at 6.6/11. (This is much better than the situation for Bionic Woman, which continues to lose viewers every week.)
The third episode of Pushing Daisies was one of those character-development things that Peg-Eye Nate really hates. It's not hard to understand why: the soul-searching in episode three was far less entertaining than the mystery story in episode two, which involved the murder of a scientist involved in the manufacture of a car that runs on fuel made from dandelions.
In episode 3, Ned's reanimated girlfriend Chuck learns one of Ned's secrets-- that if he reanimates someone for more than a minute, someone else nearby will be killed to keep the world in balance. It was annoying that Chuck didn't know this, so it's nice they got it out of the way, but it was tough going for a while. Next week it's back to the goofy mysteries.
You really can't beat goofy mysteries when you're looking for a good time. The story of a car that runs on something other than gasoline has been done a hundred times, but only Pushing Daisies was able to make it funny. To do so, writer Peter Ocko populated the story with crazy characters like a bulimic dandelion model and an over-the-top, multi-lingual corporate pitchman. Best of all, there was no vast conspiracy of oil companies trying to prevent the dandelion car from making it to market. There ought to be a special Emmy for things like that.
The next episode is Wednesday, October 24, at 8pm, 7pm Central, on ABC. Remember, The Girl really likes this show, so we all have to work hard to make sure it lasts.
Respectfully submitted,
