Pushing Daisies - Special Halloween Pushing Daisies Thing

by Ferdinand T Cat

The good news is that Pushing Daisies has been extended to a full season, so The Girl is happy, and that means I'm happy, which is the most important thing.

This week's episode was another good one, combining a back story about Ned's early Halloween trauma with a mystery about a vengeful ghost. Peg-Eye Nate noticed that a lot of Pushing Daisies is about awkwardness. Ned is a secretive person and this leads to a lot of awkward moments. Normally, awkwardness does not appeal to me. A few channels over and one day previous is the show Reaper, which is also full of awkward moments. When Reaper's protagonist Sam is trying to lie his way out of trouble with his potential girlfiend Andi, I find myself wanting to bite the guy in the foot and scream at him to just tell her the truth already. It's different on Pushing Daisies, because the awkwardness comes not from Ned's situation, but from his general social incompetence. I understand social incompetence. In fact, I think I live at the international headquarters of social incompetence. Thus, Ned's awkwardness is something familiar and sweet, rather than annoying and stupid. It makes all the difference in the world.

Next week ABC is pre-empting the show in order to broadcast the Country Music Awards. I live in a house full of country fans who like to sing along to the music, so I will be spending the evening hiding under the bed, but I am looking forward to the following week, when Pushing Daisies will be back.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
