Ferdy at the Movies - The Cat in the Sopranos Finale

by Ferdinand T Cat

I promised I would talk about the cat in the Sopranos finale once I saw it on DVD.

It's entirely possible the writers had a different interpretation than mine, but because I'm a superior life form, my opinion is the correct one no matter what everybody else says.

The cat is the presence of death that separates the mob world from the real world that you and I inhabit. The cat is helpful, because it catches rats. Similarly, the threat of death is what keeps mobsters from turning into rats. The cat is also scary, because death is used as a weapon to shift the balance of power in the mob world. It stares at Christopher's picture, because Christopher is dead, and then it transfers attention to Pauli when Pauli takes over Christopher's old job. Just prior to taking the job, Pauli discusses the high death rate associated with the role.

Alternatively, the cat can represent the need for people to send me lots of money in order to make the world a better place. It could go either way, but just to be safe, you should send me the money.

Anyway, I thought people would want to know.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
