Confused Americans for Truth - The Taser Saga Continues

Andrew Meyer, who gained notoriety a while back for being tasered during a John Kerry Q & A event, has publicly apologized for his behavior.

The apology, of course, is not a real apology, it's part of a deal to get the charges dropped. Like most fake apologies, Meyer's begins with a statement of what he did wrong (tarnishing the image of the school), and ends with the implication he has helped bring important issues into focus. It is this last that bothers me the most, because he claims the important issue is free speech.

People, he cannot be allowed to get away with this! If he does, people all over the world will start thinking that behaving like a lunatic is good for free speech! It's bad enough that people think pornography is good for free speech. Imagine, if you will, paranoid conspiracy theory shops popping up next to all the porn shops. We could end up with clubs where career paranoids get up on stage and talk for five minutes or more without making a single comprehensible point. Television shows and movies will try to push the new boundaries by becoming more and more irrational.

It's not a pretty picture.

So, the next time Andrew Meyer comes up in conversation, remember that it's not about free speech, it's about courtesy. We need more courtesy in this world, not more stupidity.
