Under the Peg - I'm Not Going To Make A "Sweet" Joke
Even though Bee Movie is a family film (which means a healthy chunk of the theatre crowd will be young children) it's worth going to see as an adult. The characters are likable, the story is well thought out, and the lesson is one of the most important lessons out there: actions have unintended consequences.
I brought The Girl Who Feeds Ferdy along because Jerry Seinfeld is her favorite comedian.
The movie can be divided into thirds. In the first third, we meet Barry B Bennson (Seinfeld) who has just graduated from college and is supposed to chose his first job in the hive. The only catch to the job process is he can't change jobs once he choses his first one. Daunted by such a momentous decision, he looks for any available excuse to delay the choice, even going so far as to hitch a ride with the bees who go out to harvest nectar-- the "Pollen Jocks." He ends up trapped in an apartment belonging to a florist who saves his life, and making friends with her. Vanessa (Renee Zellweger, the florist) shows him around the human world, and when he discovers the honey industry he decides to track down the honey farms and "do something about it."
The second third of the movie is Barry Doing Something About It. I'll be honest with you, the Oppressed Masses Suing to Get Justice story line makes my stomach turn, but fortunately the movie doesn't end there.
The movie crossed one or two of my lines, but by the end it manages to redeem itself. It's worth mentioning, though, there are a couple places in the movie where the movie cuts to a different scene rather violently, almost giving the impression of a dream or fantasy state, but after the first couple minutes they give irrefutable evidence on the reality of a situation. I highly advise this movie for family outings.
Overall: A genius comedian meets a brilliant production company, was there any doubt?
Score: 9 pegs out of Ten
