Confused Americans for Truth - Murtha Backpedals from his Backpedaling on Iraq

by Ferdinand T Cat

Finally, we have definitive proof that the surge is working: John Murtha is trying to position himself on both sides of the question.

Here's his first statement:

I think the surge is working, but that's only one element. And the surge is working for a couple of different reasons. And one reason is the increase in troops.

The clarification (from Fox News:

The military surge has created a window of opportunity for the Iraqi government. Unfortunately, the sacrifice of our troops has not been met by the Iraqi government and they have failed to capitalize on the political and diplomatic steps that the surge was designed to provide.

The fact remains that the war in Iraq cannot be won militarily, and that we must begin an orderly redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq as soon as practicable.

Okay, so the conclusion here is that the surge is working because it has put more troops on the ground, but it's not working well enough, so we have to pull them all out as soon as possible. Bookmark this page so that the next time a Democrat says we are not spending enough on education, you can tell them the Official Murtha Solution is to plan an orderly withdrawal of the Federal government from education funding.

The thing is, we have in Iraq a case where the Official Murtha Solution is completely inappropriate. Quite frankly, I don't care if the Iraqi government does everything Murtha wants. I don't even want the U.S. government doing everything Murtha wants. In fact, I think that not listening to John Murtha is the key to making this world a better place for everybody.

See, what I care about is not the government of Iraq, but the people of Iraq. The people of Iraq are making better lives for themselves, and if we'd listened to John Murtha nine months ago, it never would have happened.

There's an important lesson here: somebody find out what Murtha's plan is for immigration reform so we can immediately do the opposite.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
