Under the Peg - A Perfect Fairy Tale
The prince Charmings of the world have had Enchanted coming for a loooonnng time.
The movie starts in the animated world. The narrator, (Julie Andrews) introduces us to the fairy tale world of Andalasia, which comes complete with impromptu musical numbers, talking animals, trolls, and princes with all the intelligence and depth of a cracked porcelain doll. One such prince is only a marriage away from taking the throne from his evil witch stepmother Narissa (Susan Sarandon) and she can't allow that. Narissa has been keeping the prince away from every woman in the kingdom, but a trick of fate deposits his one true love directly into his lap. The girl'ss name is Giselle (Amy Adams) and she's a typical fairy tail true love: sweet, innocent, loving, and able to summon small animals who become sentient as soon as they show up. On Giselle's wedding day (one day after she meets the prince), Narissa tricks her into going through a portal to a place where "there are no happy endings." Giselle wakes up in New York, and lands in the life of a divorce attorney named Robert Phillips (Patrick Dempsey). She's retained all her animated-world mannerisms, and Robert has to keep her out of trouble until Edward comes to save her.
The animation in this movie is incredible, the characters all have depth and charm, and the movie even manages a nice surprise ending. (Not the surprise you're thinking of, which is not really all that surprising, but a completely different surprise after the original expected surprise.) There are one or two places that seem to come completely out of left field, but apart from those the movie is smooth and easy to follow. Children will love the fairy tale charm and simplicity, and adults will love the interaction between fantasy and reality.
Overall: A movie this good must be shared.
Score: 9.5 pegs out of Ten
This movie carries the: Girl Who Feeds Ferdy, Barb Gigamaster, and Quiet Mag seals of approval (art still pending).

Peg-Eye Nate,
Sometimes a movie or book review tells us as much about the reviewer as the reviewer tells us about the movie or book. This review tells us that the reviewer is a man with a generous heart, a clever mind, an abiding loyalty to decency, and a true fondness for his fellow humans of all ages. Congratulations!
And now that I’ve thoroughly embarrassed you, I’ll point out that you made me want to see the movie even though Susan Sarandon is in it, a real achievement. I can take solace in the fact that she is a malevolent witch in the movie. (Talk about typecasting!)
