Adventures with Bruce - Christmas Break with The Girl and The Gremlin
Starting on Christmas Day, and extending through the New Year, The Gremlin and her mother are back with the family. The Gremlin is my favorite human, so I've been spending as much time with her as I can, but this is limited by the fact she has lots of friends who want to see her, too. There is also the annual gaming convention.
The Gremlin is always The Gremlin, but for four days out of every year, The Girl stops being a sort-of normal teenager and transforms into Hard Core Gamer Girl, meeting with others of like mind to play the sort of games that are only sold in hobby stores. An example is a pattern-matching game called Set. As Bruce describes it, the game involves a bunch of people sitting around a table while one player deals out cards face up. Periodically, The Girl cries "SET!" and picks up some of the cards. After about fifteen minutes of this, the other players start to cry. It doesn't sound like fun, but then humans enjoy all sorts of things that I don't understand.
The Gremlin is more into role-playing games. She becomes an elven thief or a feline wizard and pretends to fight against the forces of evil in a different universe. The Gremlin is totally at home in other universes, which is one of the reasons people like to hang out with her. Our world is a strange and wonderful place when seen through her eyes.
That's why she's my favorite human.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat
