Confused Americans for Truth - McCain Under Fire

by Ferdinand T Cat

It's important to remember that John McCain's reputation for integrity and straight talk comes not from any personal honesty, but from the fact that he is willing to betray his fellow Republicans. This is an artifact of a peculiar mindset in modern politics. Consider that when she was being vetted for Secretary of State, the primary criticism of Condoleezza Rice was that she is simply too loyal to President Bush.

McCain is currently courting conservatives because he needs us to win the election. His original strategy, however, was based on pragmatism instead of principle: the assertion that he's the only one who can beat Hillary Clinton. It was a dubious claim at best, but it was also a stupid one: circumstances change, and when they do, pragmatic arguments become irrelevant.

The up side to all this is that as a Republican nominee, McCain is no longer immune to media criticism, and will cease to be an effective force for creating really stupid legislation. The down side is the real possibility that the Republican party will get slaughtered in the general election.

I certainly hope that doesn't happen, but it if does, we will survive the experience, just as we've survived having Nancy Pelosi at the helm.

Survival is what America does best.

Respectfully submitted,
