Web Site News - Out Cold Without a Comment Script
I don't know who is doing it or why, but someone keeps disabling our comment script. I suspect that our presence provider-- Hosting Matters-- is doing this because we are under attack by comment spammers. I wish they'd told us, though. Of course, it's possible they did tell us and the message was thrown away by one of the many layers of email spam filters we have operating.
So, Bruce will be spending the rest of the evening trying to get our comment facility back online.
This could not have come at a worse time. I am operating at well below par thanks to a bout of feline rhinitis. Feline rhinitis is similar in many ways to the common cold that afflicts humans, but it has some very important differences. For one thing, instead of a week it tends to drag on for months. A human with a cold has difficulty breathing; a dog with a cold can't hunt. As a result, humans and dogs that can't get over a cold quickly were eliminated from the breeding pool a few million years ago. A cat hunts with its eyes, and our nostrils are tough to block. These wonderful advantages have gifted us with the ability to survive a cold that hangs on for months. This does not mean that feline rhinitis is pleasant. The recoil from a sneeze is strong enough to penetrate hard steel. Well, that's how it feels anyway.
The cold is a gift from Lucky, shown sleeping peacefully in the photo to your left. Lucky and Boots have had it since January. I'm not stupid, mind you, so I've tried to keep both of them at a distance to avoid infection. Unfortunately, while it's fairly easy to wave Boots away, Lucky is completely fearless, and even my most potent Withering Look cannot stop him from putting me in a headlock and licking my face.
So, here I am, at a point when it's absolutely necessary to hold Bruce's feet to the fire so he can fix the blog, and he thinks it's funny when a particularly powerful sneeze causes me to fall off my chair. Trust me on this: you cannot effectively discipline a pet human when you look like you just stepped out of a slapstick farce.
Anyway, here's hoping things get better real soon.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly, Ferdy. Perhaps a good cat story will perk you up a bit? Try this on for size:

Oh Ferdy! You poor, sweet thing. I hope you start feeling better than expected. I know what it is to be surrounded by so many children...er...kittens. I'm almost 19 (in human years, Aug. 19, 1989), and they think it's just dandy to walk wherever and whenever they so desire. I had to straighten that out straight away! Cheerio, chap!
Respectfully,
Miss Flea.
PS. Yes, it is my true name that the odd one chose for me. I'm telling you, you cannnot leave them to the simpliest of tasks!

Hmm, looks like you got the comment script back up. Threatening to burn people's feet seems to work wonders when you want them to do something. ;)
I'm sorry about your cold. :(
I've had an on again/off again cold since January myself. But I hope you get over yours sooner than you expect. :)

I use Google for the blog. Blog spammers can be stopped by the equivalent of your Captcha. Every once in a while someone will try to direct readers to a web site that is strictly for making money, but these are easy to weed out and the comment can be deleted with one click.
I hope you get over that nasty sneeze soon.
