Confused Americans for Truth - Think of it as a Quiz, not an Investigation

by Ferdinand T Cat

Long before I was born, Bruce worked for a small software house located in Boston. One day, they asked him to evaluate database packages. He made a quick survey of what was available and recommended two possibilities. They asked him for more details, so he did a more detailed report. They then asked him why he hadn't recommended the Greenleaf Database Library. Bruce is not completely stupid, so in the third version of the report, the Greenleaf Library was a clear winner. A few months later, they asked him to evaluate math libraries. While Bruce is not completely stupid, he's not completely smart, either, so he asked them which package he should recommend.

They eventually went bankrupt, so it was probably a good thing that they fired him when they did.

Anyway, I was reminded of this story when I read that Nancy Pelosi announced in a press conference that she wanted General Patraeus to give her the correct answers when she asks him about Iraq next week.

While it may be true that there is less street violence in Iraq, the Democrats are unhappy because the Iraqi government has not done anything to put an end to the sectarian politics that Speaker Pelosi feels is the root of the whole insurgency mess. Ms. Pelosi probably hopes that if the different Iraqi factions can figure out how to work together, then the same techniques could be used to make Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama work together, or help Jeremiah Wright live in peace with white people.

The odd thing is, I really don't see what the fuss is about. Illinois is a one-party state, and our governments still can't agree on anything. When they do agree, it always involves a massive tax hike. For the long-suffering Iraqi people, It is probably a blessing that their government can't get anything done. In fact, maybe we should just import all the Sunnis from Iraq to Illinois. That would give us a second political party to compete with the Democrats, and the sort of easygoing corruption the Sunnis enjoyed under the Ba'athists should make them feel right at home here.

In the meantime, here's a tip for General Petraeus: don't ask Congress to tell you how they want their questions answered. It may seem like a good way to same time and avoid grief, but it will just make them mad.

I don't make these rules. I just try to figure them out.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
