Force Football - Dallas Diamonds Win IWFL Championship

by Ferdinand T Cat

With 10 seconds left in the game and the score tied 29-29, the Chicago Force quarterback Sam Grisafe gunned a pass from the 21 yard line to Trish Harper, who was tackled just inches from the end zone. With no time-outs left, the clock ran out and the game went into overtime. The ball changed hands twice more. Eight minutes into overtime play, Dallas scored a touchdown, and the game ended. The Diamonds captured the 2008 IWFL championship. Final Score: 35 to 29.

Losing is hard. It's easy to forget this when you're around Bruce, because he makes failure seem effortless. But to an athlete that's pushing to the limits of human endurance, it's painful to come up short. It takes so much work to make it to the championship that it seems unbearable to have to face it again.

The Force fans were pretty devastated as well. One angry fan remarked to Bruce that Dallas was a one-trick team: almost every offensive play had Jessica Springer in it. This is true; however, as long as no one can figure out how to stop the woman, giving her the ball makes all the sense in the world. No one was surprised when Springer took home the game MVP award.

Because this was a championship game, Holmgren Field was managed by the league rather than the Force organization, and it was a decidedly less homey place. It was also packed to capacity, and there was no shortage of press people wandering around with video cameras. A sign at the entrance warned people that if they didn't want to appear in a motion picture, they should turn around and go back. This sort of thing doesn't bother Bruce, of course, because nobody ever shoots a film with Bruce in it. The closest he ever came to being caught on film was back in the early Nineties when they were shooting a scene for Rookie of the Year in O'Hare Airport. Bruce walked pass the warning sign, and the director was about to call for action when he saw Bruce. He turned to the cameraman, pointed at Bruce, and said "Wait until the weirdo gets out of the picture."

Anyway, check your local news outlets. If they're doing a story on the IWFL championship, you should be able to see several video bits without Bruce in them.

I'm not going to do a play-by-play analysis this time because there are people coming to the site looking for the results of the game. I don't want them to go away disappointed, so I have to get this post wrapped up right now. However, I do have some final thoughts for the Force players and fans.

  • Talk to Bruce. Often, just 10 minutes of listening to true stories about Bruce is enough to make people feel better about their own lives.
  • Look at this picture of Boots the cat.
  • I'm a superior life form, and I'm going to be counting the days until next season.

Respectfully submitted,
