Adventures with Bruce - An Important Warning That is Not Ripped From Today's Headlines

We live in dark times, with an uncertain economy, rumblings of a wider war, and the very real possibility that we haven't heard the end of the High School Musical franchise. As a result, I've felt a need to concentrate on serious topics, and this blog has become very depressing.

Two days ago, however, I experienced a horror so great that I feel compelled to comment on it even though it is well away from the major headlines. Those of you who have experienced this horror are already beyond help, but for the rest of you there is still hope, so long as you don't even THINK about buying Rock Band 2.

Rock Band 2, for those lucky enough not to know anything about it, is a game in which up to four players simulate the activities of a heavy metal rock band. Around here, we mostly listen to country music and jazz, so the musical numbers in Rock Band 2 were new to me.

I have heard The Gremlin trying to sing Indestructable Master of War. I have watched The Girl hammer a drum set at a rhythm that never quite matches the actual song being played. And I have begun to suspect that hearing loss is not an effect of heavy metal rock, but a precondition to being able to withstand it.

It was so bad that even Lucky-- the very same Lucky cat who is completely unfazed by an operating vacuum cleaner-- fled upstairs and hid under the bed.

I know that right now my conservative friends are concerned that a few months from now, a newly-empowered Democratic party will start making mischief, and you're worried about the country's future and the future of your family. I offer to you this one comfort: as long as you don't own Rock Band 2, it could be worse.

I dearly wish I had that same option.

Wow. I feel for ya, Ferdy. I'm not worried about the election, because I know you are going to convince Bruce and 'The Girl' to vote for McCain/PALIN. After all, just like Kenny Rodgers said, 'There's a whole lot more of us than there ever will be you!' ;)

Worry about getting Rock Band 2? I don't even have enough money for Super Smash Bros. Brawl (easily the best Wii game ever)! Why would I pay $190 for Rock Band 2?! I probably couldn't even fit all those fake instruments into the room...
