Confused Americans for Truth - Oil Socialism Really Does Suck
Do a search for data about the economic collapse of the Soviet Union, and you'll find a lot of articles like this one, which assign the problem to the Soviet obsession with military parity. This was the basis for the plot of the sixth Star Trek movie, which should give you an idea of how firmly entrenched it is.
The need to prove that socialism works is very important right now, not only because people are telling us that capitalism is dead, but also because a certain politician accidentally revealed a tropism for spreading the wealth.
Okay, so you and I know that the spreading-the-wealth tropism is what caused the mortgage meltdown in the first place. That's old news. The new news is that the replacement poster child for the wonders of communism-- Venezuela-- is having its own little energy crisis. Venezuela is not a militarized regime like the Soviet Union, its economy-- like so many other countries now and in the past is based on oil socialism.
Like Barack Obama, oil socialists try to create wealth for their supporters by gouging money out of the pockets of the American middle class. Unlike Obama, they don't have the power of the American government at their disposal, so they do it by seizing control of their country's oil supply. The reason these countries have to gouge Americans instead of other countries is that other countries use nuclear power and as a result are less dependent on oil. America can't use nuclear power, because it involves radioactive stuff that has to be buried in the ground, and after hundreds of years it might escape. Instead, we are trying to convert to ethanol, a fuel that dumps carbon dioxide into the air right now.
I don't make these rules, I just try to figure them out.
Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that the communist house of cards falls apart when the magic totem stops spitting out the cash. In the Soviet Union, the magic totem was imperialist expansion. In Venezuela, it's oil, and oil prices are starting to fall.
So, whether it's weapon-based or oil-based, socialism still sucks. That means it's going to suck here, too.
Don't let that happen.
