Confused Americans for Truth - More Milla Jovovich Movies Will Help the Economy

by Ferdinand T Cat

With Nancy Pelosi's latest announcement that birth control will help the economy, economics has moved into the same metaphysical realm as environmentalism: you can use it to prove anything.

The cold hard truth is that economic stimulus packages don't create wealth, they merely move it around. This is known to economists as The Parable of the Broken Window; however, it was more recently articulated in the movie Fifth Element, when weapons manufacturer Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg explains to the priest that building weapons is good for the economy because of all the people who are employed in cleaning up the mess after something's destroyed.

As I explained in The Law of Supply and Revenge, liberals believe that stimulus packages and bailouts work because the money involved is magically created, when in fact it is taken away from something else. There is, however, slightly more to the equation: the money is being spent the way liberals want it spent, and more than anything, liberals desire control. For example, liberals believed that if they had more control, mortgage banks would have made fewer mistakes, even though many of the banks that failed were doing what liberals wanted: loaning money to the economically disadvantaged.

The economy is helped when money is taken away from stupid ideas and put to use on smart ideas. The problem is, the people who currently run our government can't tell a smart idea from a stupid one. This is why I have argued forcefully in the past that they should spend their time on pointless symbolic gestures instead of actual economic plans.

So call your legislators now and tell them we need to spend more time punishing the Bush Administration for war crimes and less time working on an economic stimulus package. The people demand justice, not pork! And in the meantime, get as many people as you can to watch The Fifth Element. There are lots of explosions, a whole scene of Milla Jovovich beating up bad guys, and a tiny segment in the middle about the flaws in the logic of economic stimulus. Hopefully, they'll learn something.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

I beg to differ. They know good and brilliant ideas when they see them. They just fillibuster them or do whatever it takes to make sure that one never sees the light of day, and then they tell us (believing we will believe them) that is too complicated for us to understand. *sigh*
