Notes from Ferdy - A Nation of Cowards
Our country has, in the past century, come a long way, but in one important aspect, we are merely fooling ourselves. When it comes to honest discussions of stupidity, we are a nation of cowards.
A lot of you may think that the election of Barack Obama is itself a repudiation of our nation's long flirtation with stupidity, but in fact, Obama's first major piece of legislation is nothing more than a thinly-disguised subsidy for the stupid.
This subsidy is particularly ill-timed, because stupidity is at the root of our economic crisis. Think about it for a moment: you don't loan money to people with bad credit because you're greedy, you do it because you're stupid! Yet, we blithely accept the greed theory because the idea that stupidity still has us in its grip is just too darn terrifying.
Most Americans have little contact with stupidity in the workplace. But we tolerate stupidity in our private lives whenever we pick up a newspaper or go see a movie. In that respect, our country has progressed very little in the past fifty years.
We cannot solve this nation's problems until we are comfortable enough with one another and tolerant enough of each other to have frank conversations about the stupid ideas that continue to assault us from our state, local, and national governments. Stupidity is not just wrong, it's dangerous, and trust me on this one: if you think our biggest problem is race, you've got a stupidity problem, and it's not just stupid, it's Illinois stupid.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

Actually, I took this as proof that America and stupidity had tied the knot. :P

Wait, I thought the ones who DIDN'T loan money to people with bad credit were supposed to be the greedy ones. Or maybe you have to be cynical AND stupid to believe that. It seems like accusing businesses of greed is just a way that a lot of people try to cover up the fact that they know nothing about economics.
Well, anyway its nice to see there are still some people able to recognize stupidity and willing to call it what it is. ;)
