Confused Americans for Truth - Mark Kirk and the Magic Money

by Ferdinand T Cat

Congresman Mark Kirk [R, IL] is taking some heat for his opposition to the stimulus package. This is because it is very easy to condemn someone for not wanting to help poor people, but it is difficult to understand the economics of a massive spending bill. (I know it's difficut, because Barack Obama, a man who is almost too smart to be President, can't figure it out.)

What Kirk wants to know is where all this stimulus money is coming from. It's a good question, because money is not magic. If you print more of it, inflation kicks in, robbing it of its worth. If you can't print it and you're not taxing it, you need to borrow it. But the President keeps saying he wants to get the credit flowing again. People, you don't get credit flowing by taking a trillion dollars of it for yourself. The idea isn't just wrong, it's stupid.

Borrowing to stimulate credit? That's not just stupid, it's Illinois StupidHang on a minute, It's worse than stupid. (And here I thought I'd already milked that gag dry.)

You know, I really do want the guy to be a good President, but he's not making it easy.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

The so-called "stimulus" is a horrible idea.. it's a great way of making the same mistakes Roosevelt and prolonging the global economic crisis.

I just read an old post of yours where you referred to Chicago as a blue city in an extremely blue state. That is simply not true. Chicago is an extremely blue city in a red state. Outside of Cook County Bush won the state of Illinois by a margin of about 10 points in both 2000 and 2004. Most people in downstate Illinois detest Chicago and the way it ruins the rest of the state.

You make a good point, but we have no Republicans in statewide office, and both State houses are controlled by Democrats in a very lopsided manner. I believe this is because the power structure in the Illinois GOP has always been liberal and pro-choice, which means voter support for Republican candidates is lackluster at best. So, even though a sizable portion of the population is red, the politics of the state is blue. And yes, it stinks.
