The Ellie Zone - Just a Little Bit Bent

by Ellie

WARNING!!! Below this line lies...

The Ellie Zone

This is a place full of adventure, and danger. Paths twist and turn before you, overlapping before turning back on themselves. Enter at the risk of your sanity.

So... I haven't posted in a while, but I just haven't been able to come up with a good topic. Well, I was talking to Barb, Maggie, and Nate this morning and something hit me. So here it is.

The topic for today is insanity. This is actually what we were talking about... In a roundabout way.

Anyway. In gym right now at school we're doing square-dancing. This would be SO much fun if everyone else actually knew what they were doing. They of course don't, for some reason or another, and I end up leading my square by the hand the entire time. This is not fun.

So, as a defense system (and to compensate for the suffering), every time I enter the room in question I get really, REALLY hyper. My friend across the square keeps telling me to stop being happy, and every time I tell her I'm not happy, I'm just hyper.

Apparently there is no difference.

Eventually they got tired of disagreeing with me and just called me crazy. My immediate reply was, "I'm not crazy. I just look at the world sideways." And I tilt my vertical hands to the side. Of course I talk with my hands. I'm Italian.

Speaking of which. I recently joined Facebook because a friend of mine made it for me. He messed up my name so I had to spend a week figuring out how to fix it, but other than that it's fun. I can talk to Mom and stuff...

Anyway, on Facebook there's an application called Pieces of Flair. Basically they're just cyber buttons, the kinds with the pins on the back, and some of them are really cool. One of them, my favorite, described the four levels of insanity.

1. Talks to Self
2. Argues with Self
3. Loses Arguments with Self
4. Is no longer speaking to Self

As you can imagine, I am not quite as bad as that. I mean, we're all on speaking terms. Aren't we?? Aren't we??? ... Apparently not.

Never mind. Anyway, this leads me to my other topic. The friend who made my Facebook account is having family problems, and decided I am a very good listener (I don't know where he got that...), and so tells me everything. I won't give you details, but basically his dad said he either starts playing bells or quits band (he's a drummer). Well, he says he'd rather die than play bells and he'll go insane if he quits band.
I don't really see what the problem is here.

I have been told that confidence such as mine is not normal (in the loose sense of the word). Well, this must be true because whenever I ask questions in Biology Class everyone seems to laugh. It's either the way I say it or the question I ask, but it always seems funny.

The most recent occurrence is this:

I had asked at the beginning of the class period about noncoding DNA. It had been an answer choice on our last quiz, and I wanted to know what it was to make sure I put the right answer. Well, it turns out that only 1.5% of our DNA codes proteins. The other 98.5% was labeled "Junk" until a little while ago, and is known as Noncoding DNA.

So our teacher, Mr. Hauser, proceded to spend 40 minutes of our 50 minute class period talking about how with this 98.5% scientists can now figure out all the disorders you're going to have and stuff. Now I'm naturally curious, so I asked the first question that came to mind.

"So you mean we can tell if someone's going to be exceptionally smart or... not?"

I was speaking loud enough for everyone to hear me, but was at a loss for words at the end and so made the last word, an attempt at being coherent, quieter. This made everyone laugh.

I like making people laugh, so I didn't really mind much. I just wanted to know what they were laughing at.
In fact, I still do.

So the basic thing I'm trying to say here is that if you want to be crazy (like me), go ahead. But you can't go around telling people you're insane because eventually it will land you in a mental institution. Not that that wouldn't be fun but I hear some of them are nasty.

The Parrello motto is "All Parrello's are just a little bit bent."

Of course, non-Parrello's can't use this.

So the next time someone calls you crazy, and you don't want to agree, just tell them you look at the world sideways. It's always worked for me.

Smile,

Ellie the Gremlin
